My Story

Present time…

My name is Heather RJ Fletcher. I began in retail before transitioning into television, radio, and internet commercial production as a Line Producer. After working with a leading agency, I experienced burnout, which led me to explore new paths. During this time, I discovered product design—a field where all my experiences converged. Today, as a director of product development I’m driven by a passion for studying consumer culture and innovation, crafting universal visual narratives through design.

How it all started…

My design journey began with a foundation in illustration and an in-depth understanding of color. Since 2013, I have immersed myself in book arts, including bookmaking, letterpress, papermaking, and calligraphy, specializing in decorative handmade papers. My expertise lies in marbling, and in 2019, I published a book titled Making Marbled Paper, which is available at bookstores everywhere.

Studies…

I hold a BA in Studio Arts and Curiosity from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and have completed graduate coursework at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). Additionally, I earned a certificate in UX Design from Springboard.

In my free time…

When I’m not working, I teach marbling and other book arts techniques at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and internationally. I’m also an avid explorer, visiting national parks with my husband and our rescue dog, Scooter.

There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period.
